Spring is right around the corner and I’m so excited for all of the spring portrait sessions that will come with the warmer weather. One of the most common questions I get when clients book sessions is what they should wear – and if I have any suggestions. So here’s my top 3 tips for choosing outfits for your spring portrait sessions!
When the spring comes, we all think of pastels. All of those lovely, light colors that come with this time of year will look beautiful in your portraits. Although I am all about a good, solid, dark pop of color the rest of the year, the new flowers and light colors in the décor around us lends itself to wearing those colors in your portraits too. Spring is all about birth and life – so light colors are perfect. Plus pastels always look good together, no matter how you mix them up!
Coordinate, but you don’t have to match! Especially when it comes to family sessions, I encourage you to coordinate your outfits but you don’t have to match 100%. Find colors and ONE pattern you like then spread those around your family members. Coordinating colors provide some variety in your photos. Plus you’ll be able to mix things up with your accessories more easily! Having said that, if you choose to match like the Walker family did (below), it can look classy as well. Rules are made to be broken right?
At the end of the day, these are your portraits so dress how you want, but my last tip? Dress so that you’re comfortable and can move during our session but try to avoid being too casual. Your portraits are a chance to celebrate – so make it a little different than any other day. If you want to wear jeans, dress the up with a nice shirt – or add a statement piece of jewelry to your favorite comfortable dress. Adding a little something extra just makes your session that much more special!
Spring portraits are always a great time and no matter what you wear, we’ll have a great time! I can’t wait to see you and your family to celebrate your special moments this year!
